Industrial Progress Summary

Industrial progress in the late 1800's and 1900's was rough sometimes and better other times.

Around 1904 and 1905 James B. Duke was a very popular name for one reason hydroelectricity.James Duke built dams across the Catawba river to generate electricity,Duke origanally sold the power to the local textiles. Dukes first big costumer was James W. Cannon{who built a new town and needed electricity}.Most of the indutrial growth was concentrated on tabacco,textiles,and furniturein the early 1900's.Because of the duke family Durham became the source for the nations cigerattes.Some of north carolinas county were working placesand produced some of the big products such as tabacco textile and furniture. Towns cotinued to grow rapidly.
